Vienna - Augustinerkirche

Augustinerkirche
Interior

This church is located at Augustinerstrasse 7 just south of the Hofburg.

Princess Mary (later Queen Mary IV and III) and Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig III) of Bavaria were married here in 1868.

On the right side of the church is the entrance to the Loretokapelle. At the far end of this chapel is a tiny round room called the Herzgruft where the hearts of 54 members of the House of Habsburg are preserved in small urns. The heart of Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria (son-in-law of King Victor) is preserved in the third urn from the right on the lower shelf. The Herzgruft can only be visited on Sundays after the conclusion of the 11.00 a.m. mass (entrance fee, € 1,50).
